Anne Gros-Echezeaux-Les Loachausses-Grand Cru 2015 (AM91)
Note: from a .76 ha parcel, which is about 30% of the total climat Producer note: Anne Gros, and her daughter Julie, commented that 2015 gave us an unusual growing season in that it was very hot and dry yet the evenings were relatively cool so the fruit retained more acidity than is typical for warm vintages. We began picking on the 7th of September in Clos de Vougeot and Ech矇zeaux and then, as always, finished with our parcel in the Hautes C繫tes. The fruit was impeccably clean and there was almost nothing to sort beyond a few leaves and insects. The vinifications were easy as there was really not much to do as the colors and tannins came easily, indeed there is plenty of structure due to the thick skins. As to the wines, despite the firm constitutions they're easy to like as they're generous and sensual. As has been the case for the last several vintages I frankly found the 2015s to be somewhat underwhelming relative to the general quality of the vintage. Anne Gros has also made purchases at the Hospices de Beaune and the Hospices de Nuits auctions, please see those reviews immediately below. Tasting note: Moderate wood sets off the markedly spicy aromas of liqueur-like dark pinot fruit, violet and lilac. There is impressive volume to the full-bodied but highly seductive flavors that coat the palate on the toasty and somewhat warm finale. This should also drink well on the younger side if desired.
